This, and its companion publication (HOUSE PLANTS & Porch Gardens), were once terrific newsstand and subscriber-based publications. A few bits of "Gardening" are included here to demonstrate some awareness of the magazine business and for purely sentimental reasons. It is important to note here that magazine publishing is something of a crash course in editorial, graphic arts and marketing endeavors. Few undertakings are as intensely self-destructive as the launch of a periodical. And not many are as quickly fiercely educational. Those of us who have been there and done that learned much from the experience. |
